Swimmers on 6 December added more medals to Team Zambia’s medal table as they entered their second day of the scintillating swimming competition at the ongoing African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games.
Mia Phiri opened her individual account swimming a 31.35s in the 50m backstroke to secure a silver, as gold was won by a Zimbabwean swimmer who clocked the time of 30.50s.
In the 100m butterfly event, Jade Phiri bagged a bronze after producing a personal best of 1:06.34, wherein gold and silver were scooped by a Zimbabwean and South African swimmer who clocked 1:04.92 and 1:04.90 respectively.
The swimmers inspired once again, ending the Tuesday swim session with an invigorating bronze in a 4x50m freestyle relay, stopping the clock in a time of 1:52.97 slipping out of silver, 1:52.16 won by Zimbabwe and 1:51.63 gold scoped by South Africa. The relay was lead off by Mia Phiri, Jade Phiri, Johanna Coates, and anchored by Gabby Ng’ambi.
The swimmers are back in the water today for their last day of competition and will be looking to build on their successes as well as secure another gold for mother Zambia.
