A taxi driver has been found dead inside a Toyota Runx near the School of Law at the University of Zambia in Lusaka, in what police are investigating as a suspected murder.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer GODFREY CHILABI says the 31-year-old man, identified as ABLE MWAPE, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, registration number CAG 2255.
Mr. CHILABI says the incident is believed to have occurred between the early hours of September 24 and 07:30 hours.

He says UNZA security personnel reported the matter at Handsworth Police Post, under Chelstone Police Station, at about 12:00 hours after discovering the man in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. MWAPE sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Mr. CHILABI says Mr. MWAPE, who lived in Garden Chilulu in Lusaka, had left home for work at about 22:00 hours on September 23.
He says his wife later positively identified him as the deceased.
Mr. CHILABI said in a statement that the owner of the vehicle has also confirmed that Mr. MWAPE was employed as a taxi driver.
He said in a statement that police have processed the scene, while the body has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The Zambia Police spokesperson said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected murder and to identify those responsible.
Mr. CHILABI has appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
He said members of the public can also contact the Zambia Police Emergency Lines on 9010 or 9011.
