A 15-year-old boy from Lwiindi Village in Choma’s Macha Chiefdom has collapsed and died from supposed fear shortly after watching a movie on a smartphone with his 43-year-old grandmother and 21-year-old uncle.
Following the movie, the deceased, Joseph Chiinya, is said to have screamed in fear as if startled, thereafter collapsed, leaning on his grandmother’s right shoulder.
He was rushed to Mbabala Clinic, where he was formally pronounced dead upon arrival, with the matter, which is said to have occurred on 2nd December 2025 around 19:00 hours, reported to police.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, says officers who inspected the remains observed no visible injuries, adding that no foul play is suspected at this stage.
The remains of the deceased were deposited in the Choma General Hospital mortuary awaiting burial procedures.
