MONZE CANTER ACCIDENT CLAIMS TWO LIVES
TWO people have died, with seven others injured, after a Mitsubishi canter overturned in Monze District.
The accident occurred on May 8, 2024 at 23:30 hours, off Njola-Mwanza Road in Chona Chiefdom, 70 kilometers East of Monze town near Kayola Primary School.
The victims have been identified as Wise Mwila Katumbo, aged 32 of Chingola and 57-year-old Ronah Michelo of Simulula Village in Monze, with both victims having had sustained fatal injuries, hence dying on the spot.
Confirming the development to Byta FM Zambia News, Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says the deceased persons were among 9 passengers in a Mitsubishi Canter which was being driven by 25-year-old Modorn Cheepa of Monze.
Daka explains that the accident happened due to excessive speed, with the driver losing control of the vehicle before overturning, with the Canter extensively damaged.
He notes that the driver who has since been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, sustained general body pains and was treated and discharged at Monze Mission Hospital.
Daka states that the other 7 passengers sustained slight injuries and have been treated and discharged from the aforementioned facility.
