Following the collision, the truck driver allegedly failed to stop and render assistance, instead fleeing the accident scene and leaving the two victims behind.
However, police traffic officers launched investigations and managed to trace the suspected driver in the early hours of Sunday, November 8, at the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) depot in Chongwe.
The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Greyd Mweemba of Mwantalasha Village in Chongwe District. He is currently detained at Chongwe Police Station awaiting formal charges.
Police have since impounded the Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter truck and taken it to Chongwe Police Station.
The damaged Boxer motorcycle has also been parked at the station pending re-examination by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).
Meanwhile, police have appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist in identifying the two deceased men to report to their nearest police station.
The identities of the victims have not yet been established.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of road traffic accidents and the importance of motorists remaining at accident scenes to ensure that injured people receive assistance and that investigations can be conducted.
