A woman of Choma’s Chandamali Compound has been arrested for having an unsafe abortion and depositing the fetus into an unfinished building.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested by police for unlawfully terminating her four-month pregnancy for unknown reasons after receiving a report from her neighbor.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Paul Achiume who confirmed the development to Byta FM News identified the suspect as Farnet Hamibilo.

Achiume explains that the incident happened between the 10th and 11th of February, 2023 when the suspect’s neighbour Barbra Sichaza found her with a flat tummy when she was pregnant.

He further states that Sichaza reported the matter to the police as there was no sign of any miscarriage.

Achiume adds that the suspect was arrested and is still remanded in custody.
