Joe Muchindu, the ruling UPND’s parliamentary candidate, has announced plans to contest for Choma South once the delimitation of the constituency is concluded.

Muchindu made the announcement after attending a stakeholder delimitation meeting in Choma.

Stakeholders suggested Choma South be created whilst Choma central remains.

The aspiring lawmaker has recently garnered support from traditional leaders and youths in Choma, backing him as their preferred candidate for the 2026 general elections.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has launched the delimitation exercise, aiming to review and potentially redraw boundaries in oversized constituencies to improve development delivery and fair political representation.

The process involves nationwide consultations and will result in the creation of 70 new constituencies.

The ECZ assured citizens that the delimitation process will be fair, transparent, and guided by legal provisions, considering factors like population size, geographical features, and historical representation.
