The sudden death of Zambian social media influencer Lisa Mutalu has attracted international attention after PEOPLE Magazine, the major United States entertainment and human-interest publication based in New York City, reported on her death. PEOPLE is a long-established publication that has been covering personalities, celebrities and human-interest stories since its first issue in 1974.

The New York-based publication reported that Mutalu, a popular Zambian model and social media influencer, died on August 20, 2026, at the age of 25, following an episode of severe vomiting after a night out in Lusaka.

According to PEOPLE’s report, Mutalu had been socialising with friends before returning home, where she reportedly began vomiting and later became unconscious. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have opened an investigation and a postmortem examination is expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

The coverage by a New York City-based publication with a major international audience has brought renewed attention to Mutalu’s death beyond Zambia, at a time when many Zambians are still seeking answers about what happened during her final hours.

PEOPLE reported that Mutalu, whose legal name was Lisa Mutambo, had more than 122,000 Instagram followers and was known for lifestyle content, modelling and sharing photographs from her travels.

Importantly, the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation. Police reportedly found no physical injuries on her body, while a postmortem examination is expected to provide further information.

Her sudden passing has generated an outpouring of grief on social media, with friends, followers and other Zambians expressing shock over the death of the young influencer.

The international coverage has also drawn attention to the unanswered questions surrounding Lisa Mutalu’s death, particularly because of how quickly her condition reportedly deteriorated.

At this stage, however, speculation about the cause of death should be treated with caution until authorities release verified findings from the investigation and postmortem.

The fact that PEOPLE Magazine has now reported on the death means Mutalu’s story has reached an audience far beyond Zambia, putting the tragic death of the young Zambian influencer on the radar of an international readership.
