PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says there is no crisis in Zambia following the August 13 general election, emphasising that citizens accepted the election outcome and moved on.
The President’s comment comes amidst concern that a handful of Zambians in the diaspora are portraying a misleading picture of Zambia’s internal affairs to international audiences, which threatens the country’s foreign relationships and national interest.
President Hichilema said Zambians have already voted and should now focus on the work of developing the country instead of creating problems where there are none.
The Head of State was speaking at State House this afternoon during the swearing-in ceremony of Patricia Malaila, who was appointed deputy Auditor General – Audit Division.
“There’s no issue in this country. We have had an election. Zambians voted. Decisions are made by Zambians. We move on,” President Hichilema said.
The President said some citizens should not create tension simply because their preferred person is not in office.
“What is this creating? a crisis where there’s none. What is it about? Selfish interests. ‘If it is not me, nobody should be in that office’. Let us not have that mentality,” the Head of State said.
President Hichilema also warned citizens to follow the law, saying nobody should expect special treatment after breaking it.

“You veer off the law, don’t blame anybody. Doesn’t matter how old you are. The law does not recognize age,” the President cautioned.
He further urged Zambians to be careful about what they post on social media, saying some posts could scare away investors who are being encouraged to invest in the country.
“I scan social media. I look at the kind of stuff that is thrown in there. You don’t realize what you are doing. You are scaring off an investor who we have worked so hard to attract,” President Hichilema said.
He said Zambia needs peace and stability for citizens and government to concentrate on economic development.
President Hichilema also appealed to Zambians living outside the country not to engage in activities that could damage Zambia.
“The fact that you are not physically here does not entitle you to damage your country. If you really love Zambia, why would you damage your country?” he asked.
He urged citizens to put Zambia first and work together to move the country forward.
