Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms Angela Kawandami says reprioritizing social development policies that deliver evidence-based quality services for all is key in the attainment of the 2030 Agenda.

Ms Kawandami said this when she delivered the National Statement for Zambia during the 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

She said the integration of population variables in development planning has been prioritized and that Zambia remained resolute in putting in place measures that would accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

“A National Development Plan is in place to set out the strategic direction, development priorities, and implementation strategies for the country. This calls for investment in human capital development to actualize our national vision of increasing innovation, social wellbeing, equality, and productivity,” Ms Kawandami said.

And Ms Kawandami said Zambia remained committed to enhancing the allocation of resources to the social sector to build people’s resilience against shocks and risks, promote employment, enhance access to quality education, and healthcare among others.

The Permanent Secretary added that Zambia was also committed to improving accountability, transparency, and capabilities of the social sector in order to enhance service delivery.

“To this effect, the digitization of service delivery in the social sector has been prioritized,” she said.

Ms Kawandami said Zambia will continue investing in social development and social justice amid the current and emerging social and economic challenges.

The CSD 62nd session which opened on 5th February closes on 14th February 2024. It is being held under its priority theme “Fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication.”

This is according to a statement issued by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations Namatama Njekwa.
