Lusaka, 2nd September 2026 – The Zambia Police Service has described the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony held at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, as peaceful, with no major security incidents recorded during the event.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Service said there were no crime-related incidents recorded at the venue throughout the inauguration ceremony.

The Service also reported that road traffic operations conducted during the event proceeded successfully, with no road traffic accidents recorded.

According to the Police, the smooth execution of the event was largely attributed to security and traffic management plans put in place ahead of the inauguration, as well as effective coordination among the Defence and Security Wings.

The Zambia Police Service commended members of the public for their cooperation before, during and after the ceremony, particularly as temporary road closures and traffic diversions were implemented to facilitate the movement of the Presidential motorcade, dignitaries and official processions.

Motorists were also thanked for their patience and cooperation with police officers deployed to manage traffic around the inauguration venue.

The Police Service said traffic along the Great North Road and Lumumba Road leading to the National Heroes Stadium returned to normal at around 18:00 hours following the conclusion of the day’s activities.

Despite the generally peaceful nature of the inauguration, the Police recorded one incident involving a motorist who allegedly disobeyed a lawful instruction from a traffic police officer to stop.

The incident occurred at the T-junction of Chilimbulu and Mosi-oa-Tunya Roads during the movement of the Presidential motorcade. According to the Police, the motorist instead sped off after being instructed to stop.

The Zambia Police Service said it has taken a keen interest in the matter and that investigations have since been instituted.

The Police Service once again commended members of the public and motorists for their cooperation, patience and compliance with security and traffic measures implemented in connection with the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony.
