The Zambia Police Service has appealed to members of the public to help identify and locate a motorist captured in a viral social media video engaging in an altercation with a traffic police officer along Kafue Road in Lusaka.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said investigations had been instituted into a case involving alleged unruly behaviour and failure to comply with lawful police instructions.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at around 11:30 hours in the Carousel area along Kafue Road.

According to police, traffic officers conducting routine patrols between 11:00 and 12:00 hours intercepted a blue Mitsubishi Canter light truck for inspection.

During the inspection, officers reportedly discovered that the vehicle had an expired road tax, contrary to Section 30(1) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, as well as an expired insurance certificate, contrary to Section 86(1) of the same Act.

Police said Constable Musonda Caphers informed the driver of the observed traffic offences and instructed him to park the vehicle off the road.

However, instead of complying with the instruction, the motorist allegedly became confrontational and directed abusive language towards the officer, an incident captured in a video that has since circulated widely on social media.

The Police Service said the officer remained calm and professional despite the provocation and did not engage the motorist in a confrontation.

The driver subsequently drove away from the scene in the northern direction.

Police have, however, indicated that efforts to establish the registration number of the blue Mitsubishi Canter have so far been unsuccessful, making it difficult to identify and locate the motorist.

The Service is now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, recognises the driver, has information about the vehicle or knows the motorist’s whereabouts to assist with ongoing investigations.

Members of the public who may have additional video footage, particularly recordings showing the vehicle’s registration number, have also been urged to share the material with the Police.

Anyone with credible information has been advised to report to the nearest police station.

The Zambia Police Service has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

The Service has further reminded motorists to observe road traffic laws and comply with lawful instructions issued by police officers carrying out their duties.

The appeal comes as police continue efforts to establish the identity of the motorist featured in the widely circulated video.
