MISINFORMATION ON PASSENGER TRAIN RUNNING OUT OF FUEL

KABWE, Zambia , Sunday, April 7th,2024 – Zambia Railways Limited(ZRL) would like to clarify and address the misinformation being spread on social media platforms regarding a video showing our passenger train at the South- end of Kitwe Railway Station yard purportedly to have run out of fuel.

We would like to categorically state that the company has not recorded any such incident and therefore the claim in the video in question is entirely fabricated, baseless and misleading.

ZRL would like to inform its stakeholders that what has been captured in the video is the normal shunt movement.

ZRL would like to urge the public to exercise caution when consuming content shared on social media. It is unfortunate that such misinformation was circulated leading to unwarranted concerns among the public.

Editor’s note:

A shunt movement refers to the process of moving railway wagons within a rail yard or station or between different tracks. This process involves organisation, assembly or disassembly of trains and the loading or offloading of cargo. During a shunt movement ,a locomotive or shunting engine is used to push or pull the wagons into the desired positions.
