ZAMBIAN DRIVER FINED ONE MILLION FORTY THOUSAND KWACHA FOR AIDING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

The Department of Immigration wishes to inform the public that a Zambian national, Marock Kalonga, aged 41 of Chaisa compound, appeared before the courts of Law on the 7th of January, 2026 for the offence of aiding and abetting illegal immigrants, contrary to 46(1) of the Immigration and Deportation Chapter 123 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Kalonga was apprehended on 14th November,2025 in Parkview area Livingstone, for facilitating the illegal movement of thirteen (13) foreign nationals, comprising of eleven (11) Pakistani and two (2) Ethiopian nationals in a motor vehicle Mitsubishi Pajero registration no. BBA2874.

The Court found him guilty as charged and imposed a fine of Eighty thousand Kwacha (K80, 000) per illegal immigrant, bringing the total fine to One million forty thousand kwacha (K1, 040,000). In default of payment, the convict will serve four (4) years with hard labour, effective from the date of arrest, 17th November, 2025.
Furthermore, on 6th January 2026,Frank Ngandwe, a 35 year old Zambian male driver who had previously fled the scene during the apprehension of 89 Ethiopian nationals found concealed in a fuel tanker on 23rd November 2025 in Kapiri Mposhi,was apprehended at Kazungula Border Control.

The suspect was intercepted by vigilant Immigration officers as he attempted to exit the country through the border counters.He has since been detained and is awaiting appearance before the courts of Law.
The Department of Immigration wishes to warn and caution members of the public that aiding, abetting or facilitating the illegal stay or movement of foreign nationals is a serious offence and will attract severe penalties. Members of the public are therefore urged to comply with Immigration Laws and report any suspected immigration related offences.
