A six-year-old girl has died after she sustained severe burns while warming herself by fire in Siantali Village of Kalomo District.

The victim’s 10-year-old sister and 64-year-old grandmother also sustained fire burns in an attempt to rescue the now deceased and are admitted to Request Muntanga Level One Hospital.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, tells Byta FM News that the incident happened Saturday evening and has identified the deceased as Peculiar Mwiya.

Daka explains that the victim, in the company of her sister and grandmother, were warming themselves by a fire outside the house when a heap of grass meant to block wind caught a blaze close to where the victim was sitting.

He discloses that the body of the deceased minor has been deposited at Kalomo Urban Clinic Mortuary.
