Zambian Journalist Noah Silomba gets second shortlisting for AIPS – International Sports Press Association Awards in Switzerland

ZAMBIAN journalist Noah Silomba has been shortlisted for the second time in the fourth edition of the 2021 AIPS – Sport Media Awards set for Lausanne, Switzerland.

A list seen by this publication on the AIPS – International Sports Press Association website released on 21 December shows Silomba as the only Zambian journalist shortlisted for the awards for 2021 in the Best photography – Sport action category together with other African journalists.

In 2020 he was shortlisted in two categories (Photography Sport Action, and Writing Best Colour Piece). The Awards are a highest accolade in sports journalism, and a celebration of those professionals that produce the best and most creative content worldwide.

A statement from the website read “AIPS received 320 submissions from Africa for the fourth edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards, with 38 countries represented. Following the thorough review of every entry to make sure that all the materials received are correct and abide by the rules, judging has begun. In total, there are five voting stages conducted by 40 professionals from 35 nations en route to the Awards ceremony”.

PRIZES – There are eight senior categories split into Photography (Action Photo, Portfolio), Writing (Best Column, Best Colour Piece), Audio and Video (Documentary, Short Feature, Athlete Profile), each of them allowing a top prize of USD 8,000 (1st prize), with 3,000 (2nd) and 2,000 (3rd) completing the podium.

The optional Young Reporters Category is reserved for the Under 30s (born in or after 1992) and guarantees an AIPS scholarship at a top international event for the winners in Writing, Broadcasting and Photography. On top of the final podium, the AIPS Sport Media Awards will also publish the continental rankings, to celebrate the most voted works per category and per continent, and to offer recognition to participants on a local and regional level. Special certificates will also be issued, as proposed by the Jury.
