A 25-YEAR-OLD man of Choma’s Shamambo area is in court for allegedly having sex with a chicken in his bed.

The suspect, Ignatius Mweemba, who was allegedly found naked in his bed with a dead chicken, is facing one count of unnatural offences.Mweemba, who is said to have had sex with the chicken on July 22, initially pleaded guilty to the charge but later decided to change his plea.

When he appeared before principal resident magistrate Nthandose Chabala for reading of facts yesterday, defence lawyers said they had been informed that Mweemba wanted to change his plea.

But when given the chance, he again admitted having had sex with the chicken, prompting magistrate Chabala to suggest that the matter be adjourned.Defence lawyers, however, asked the court to allow Mweemba to explain himself.

“I was sleeping and there were many chickens that came where I was. I was naked and one came where I was sleeping and that is how it died,” he said.

“Then they brought the neighbourhood watch, we were asked to pay for the chicken, but my grandmother failed to pay for it, so that is how they brought me here”.

Following his submission, defence lawyers made an application that the suspect be subjected to a mental evaluation.
Magistrate Chabala ordered that Mweemba be mentally evaluated, and she adjourned the matter to August 31.
