Swimming has become the latest sporting discipline for Team Zambia at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games in Lilongwe Malawi to mint medals.

Jade Phiri won silver in the 50m butterfly clocking a time of 28.92 as gold was won by a South African swimmer who clocked a time of 28.72.

The four swimmers comprising of Johanna Coates, Marlise Findlay, Mia Phiri and Jade Phiri won bronze for Zambia in the 4x100m freestyle relay capping off a thrilling first day of competition.

Swimming coach, Ian Stephenson described Monday’s swimming action for his athletes as brilliant to say the least, adding that the desire for bagging gold for Team Zambia continues!

The swimmers swam in style making waves in Malawi which awed opponents and spectators at large.

Zambia now boasts six medals in the bag at the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games with (1) gold (3) silver and (2) bronze medals.
