A 14-year-old girl of Pemba is pregnant after being defiled by her 29-year-old uncle while she was attending a church camp meeting.

Southern Province deputy police commanding officer Moono Namalongo said police on Tuesday received a report from the father, who reported that his younger brother defiled his daughter, who is now pregnant.
Mr Namalongo said the defilement is said to have happened twice in August last year in Pemba when the victim went for ball games.

The uncle is said to have taken advantage of her on the way back home when he allegedly dragged her into the bush.

The second time was again in August at a camp meeting in Kasiya.

“The accused took advantage of the fact that she had remained alone in the camp shelter and dragged her into the bush and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” Mr Namalongo said.

The girl narrated that she kept it as a secret until it was discovered that she was pregnant.
