REPORTS suggesting that Zesco Limited managing director Victor Mapani has been dismissed are baseless and unfounded, company board chairperson Vickson N’cube has said.
Mr N’cube’s comment follows news that made turns on social media yesterday insinuating that Mr Mapani was fired from his position for alleged incompetence.
Responding to a press query yesterday, Mr N’cube, who rubbished the claims, said Mr Mapani has not been fired but has just gone on normal leave.
“It is not true, he [Mapani] is neither fired nor [sent on] forced leave. Just normal leave,” Mr N’cube said.
Asked whether it was wrong timing for the institution to allow Mr Mapani to take normal leave at a time the country is grappling with load-shedding owing to decreased water levels, Mr N’cube said the power utility has enough manpower.
“Zesco is an institution and not a person,” Mr N’cube responded.
Efforts to get Mr Mapani proved futile as his phones were unanswered.
