The Zambia Research and Development Centre (ZRDC) has paid special tribute to the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) for its unrelenting advocacy and commitment to social justice and environmental protection.

ZRDC Director of Research, Dr Chisala Bwalya, said there are moments in the life of an institution when you simply know that today marks a turning point.

He was speaking during the official signing of a partnership agreement between ZRDC and CEJ in Lusaka.

Dr Bwalya noted that the partnership brings together two institutions with complementary strengths in research, innovation management, social entrepreneurship, capacity building, environmental advocacy, climate justice and community development.

He explained that both parties recognise the strategic importance of collaboration in advancing high-quality research and fostering joint studies that will strengthen Zambia’s knowledge base.

Dr Bwalya reflected on the journey that has brought ZRDC to this moment, stating that the institution has established itself as a leader in research and policy development in Zambia and beyond.

He highlighted that the partnership is being signed for the rural women who bear the brunt of climate change, walking longer distances for water and facing deforestation.

The Director added that the collaboration also seeks to give voice to the experiences of vulnerable communities and inform policies that address their needs.

He further stated that the partnership will support universities and technical colleges with brilliant ideas for sustainable technologies but lacking research support to bring those ideas to life.

Dr Bwalya emphasised that the joint knowledge products will provide rigorous analysis for generations who deserve a heritage country that is prosperous, sustainable and just.

He praised CEJ for making a difference in the country, demonstrating that environmental protection and social justice are inseparable.

Meanwhile, Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) Head of Research, Christopher Mubanga, expressed gratitude for the partnership.

Dr. Mubanga stated that CEJ brings experience in governance, human rights, water security and publications to the collaboration.

He expressed excitement about the research excellence they expect to achieve together.
