THIRTEEN people have died while 40 others have been injured after a truck collided with a Nakonde bound bus in Serenje District, Tuesday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, notes that the accident happened at Kabamba area between 09 and 10 hours.

Involved was a South African driver only identified as Thabo who was driving a Volvo bus belonging to Mukombe Luxury, with 57 passengers on board.

The accident also involved a Tanzanian driver who was driving a south bound DAF truck.

Hamoonga explains that the accident occurred when the driver of the DAF truck was overtaking improperly and, in the process, went and collided head-on with the bus which was coming from the opposite direction.

He notes that both drivers from the bus and the truck died on the spot as well as five passengers from either vehicle.

The other 40 passengers from the bus are admitted to Serenje district hospital and two other passengers from the truck, while twelve passengers from the bus escaped unhurt.
