A THIRTY year-old Captain Emmanuel Ndonga, stationed at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Twin Palm offices in Lusaka, has died just nine days after joyously celebrating his birthday.

The tragic incident occurred following a road traffic accident on Sunday in Livingstone, Southern Province.

It is reported that the fatal collision unfolded when Ndonga’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado collided with the tyre of a Volvo Truck and trailer, driven by 31-year-old Paul Maambo from Chawama in Lusaka.

The Volvo truck was maneuvering past another parked vehicle on the road, operated by Kaoma Mwansa of Ndola, who was dealing with a breakdown.

Ndonga’s vehicle was sent off the road due to the impact and ultimately overturned to the left side.

The aftermath left Captain Ndonga with severe head injuries and a fractured right leg, leading to his tragic demise.

Captain Ndonga celebrated his birthday on December 15 and had attended this year’s ZAF officer’s annual ball, commemorating the occasion with fellow colleagues.

Tragically, Ndonga was not alone at the time of the accident. His passenger, Mudenda Mwale, 27, of Lusaka, suffered cuts on the right arm, left side of her neck, and general body pains.

She received treatment as an outpatient.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed both the unfortunate passing of Captain Ndonga and the details of the accident through an official statement.

The driver of the Volvo Truck, Paul Maambo, escaped unharmed but has been detained in police custody on charges of causing death by dangerous driving.
