600 Get HIV Pre-exposure prophylaxis injection

Over six hundred people have received the HIV Pre-exposure prophylaxis injection as of March 2024.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis is medicine taken to prevent getting HIV and is highly effective for preventing HIV when taken as prescribed.

Health Minister SLYVIA MASEBO is confident more people will get the medication.

Ms MASEBO told ZNBC in an interview that while the Ministry does not have adequate HIV PrEP medication, the country is expected to receive more from co-operating partners .

She also said sensitization on the HIV PrEP injectable is ongoing in health centers.

In February this year, Zambia introduced Cabotegravir Long Acting (CAB-LA) an injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis medicine for HIV prevention.
