SEVEN out of nine accused persons have been sentenced to five years imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to the offences they were facing in connection with the Mumbwa riots.

The accused persons stood charged with Theft, House breaking and Theft and Breaking into a building and committing a felony.

Meanwhile, Ceaser Phiri who was jointly with the now convicts for the offence of theft has denied the charge, and will appear before court for trial on October 2, 2023.

Another accused person Mapenzi Situmbeko who was also jointly charged with now convicts for breaking into a building and committing a felony therein denied the charge and will also appear before court for trial on on October 2, 2023.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga tells Byta FM News that the nine appeared in court today before Honourable Philip Mpundu of Mumbwa Magistrate Court.

He says those convicted have been sentenced with hard labour for the male persons and simple imprisonment for the female persons.
