A 72-YEAR-OLD polygamist of Mafinga, Muchinga Province, accused of practising witchcraft has been axed to death by unknown people while asleep in his house.
Muchinga Province police deputy commanding officer Ronald Zambo said Gibson Mwandila, of Chapamutembo village, was murdered on Tuesday night.
Mr Mwandila was married to two women but used to sleep in a separate house before he was murdered.

Mr Zambo said Mr Mwandila’s first wife just heard her husband shouting for help on Tuesday around 22:00 hours.
“The wife later saw two men running out of her husband’s house before she called her son so that they could check on him,” he said.
The wife and son found Mr Mwandila had died prompting them to report the incident to Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU).
CCPU officers later reported the matter to the police before visiting the crime scene, where they found Mr Mwandila in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the head.
Mr Zambo said police suspect that an axe was used in the murder but the motive behind the killing remains unknown although he was earlier accused of practising witchcraft.
