SHAWARMA: 80 HOSPITALISED IN SUSPECTED FOOD POISONING SCHEME
EIGHTY people in Chililabombwe were admitted to medical facilities on suspicions of food poisoning.
Fifty-Three were admitted at Kakaso Level One Hospital after it was established that they had eaten Chicken Shawarma from a named restaurant.
The patients were admitted on April 7, 2024, with the Sister-In- Charge at the Medical Facility, Yvonne Saini, reporting the matter to Police.
Saini noted that the patients were complaining of abdominal pain, vomiting and a running stomach after taking the Shawarma from Cribz along Congo International Road.
Police who rushed to the hospital confirmed the report, further coming to light that other patients of similar complaints were admitted at Grace Clinic and Mine Hospital, respectively.
Police who visited Grace Clinic found 10 patients admitted, with another 3 admitted at Lubengele Clinic while 14 were at Konkola Mine Hospital, bringing the total to 80 admitted patients.
The condition of the admitted patients is stable and the owner of the restaurant, Bright Kapasa Chileshe, has since been picked and detained in lawful custody to help with investigations.
