Police in Livingstone District have launched a manhunt for a 37-year-old man accused of repeatedly defiling and impregnating his 13-year-old biological daughter, who has been found to be seven months pregnant.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo has confirmed the development, stating that the case was reported to police after the child’s mother discovered the pregnancy when the girl fell ill at school and was rushed to a health facility.

Pregnancy Discovered After Child Fell Ill

According to Mr. Namalongo, the victim was taken to a clinic on April 8, 2026, after she reportedly became unwell while at school.

Health personnel examined the girl and established that she was seven months pregnant.

Upon further inquiry, the minor reportedly disclosed that her biological father was responsible for the pregnancy.

Mother Reported Matter to Police

Mr. Namalongo stated that the victim’s mother, aged 34, immediately reported the matter to police, alleging that her husband had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of their daughter.

Police believe the alleged defilement took place on several occasions between August 2025 and April 8, 2026, in Livingstone.

Suspect Allegedly Took Advantage of Mother’s Absence

Mr. Namalongo explained that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect allegedly abused the child during periods when the mother would be away from home attending to business.

Police further stated that the victim reported being threatened and warned not to reveal the abuse.

Police Open Docket, Suspect on the Run

A case docket has since been opened and the victim has been issued with a Police Medical Report Form to support further medical attention and investigations.

Police say the suspect fled after the matter was reported and remains at large.

Police Issue Warning on Sexual Offences

Mr. Namalongo has warned that the Zambia Police Service will not tolerate sexual offences against children.

“The Zambia Police Service warns that sexual offences against children will not be tolerated. Offenders will be pursued and prosecuted. The Service remains committed to protecting children and urges the public to report abuse immediately,” Mr. Namalongo said.

The matter comes amid growing national concern over rising cases of sexual violence involving minors, with stakeholders urging families and communities to remain vigilant and report abuse without delay.
