President Hakainde Hichilema has officially re-opened Mulungushi Textiles Limited in Kabwe, Central Province, describing the development as a major milestone in Zambia’s economic renewal and a fulfilment of a long-standing promise.

In a message posted on his official Facebook page, President Hichilema said the re-opening of the textile company marks the honouring of a commitment his administration made while still in opposition.

“The official re-opening of Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe, Central Province, today marks the fulfilment of a long-held commitment, one we made while in opposition, driven by our deep love for our people and our unwavering duty to care for them,” President Hichilema stated.

Symbol of Economic Renewal for Kabwe

The Head of State said the return of Mulungushi Textiles represents more than the revival of a factory, describing it as a symbol of hope and restored economic activity for the people of Kabwe.

He noted that the milestone should be seen as a beacon of renewed opportunities, particularly for residents who have long awaited the return of industrial activity in the town.

“Above all, it is a beacon of economic renewal and restored hope for the people of Kabwe and their town,” he said.

Strengthening Zambia-China Relations

President Hichilema further highlighted that the reopening of Mulungushi Textiles is also a reflection of Zambia’s continued cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, describing the development as proof of strategic partnership between the two countries.

“This milestone stands as a powerful reaffirmation of our enduring relations with the People’s Republic of China, and as a symbol of strategic cooperation,” he said.

Government Commitment to Industrial Revival

The President’s remarks come amid the government’s push to revive key industries, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth through investment partnerships and reopening of dormant production firms.

Mulungushi Textiles has historically been one of Zambia’s key manufacturing companies and its re-opening is expected to contribute to employment creation, local production, and the textile value chain.

President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on promises and ensuring economic transformation that benefits ordinary Zambians.
