A Urologists at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Muleya Mainza, has warned that vigorous or overly adventurous sexual activity can increase the risk of penile fracture in men.

Dr. Mainza has described a penile fracture as an injury to the penile shaft that occurs during sexual intercourse and requires urgent medical attention.

Speaking to PTV2 News on the sidelines of the 60th Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola, Dr. Mainza said certain sexual positions have been associated with a higher risk of penile fracture.

He explains that rear-entry penetration and positions where the woman is on top have been linked to reported cases.

Dr. Mainza has however stressed that available scientific evidence is not conclusive and only suggests an association rather than a direct cause.

He has also revealed that Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital recently treated a patient with a penile fracture.

Dr. Mainza states that the medical team intervened promptly, and the patient is recovering well.
