Renowned Zambian music artist Angela Nyirenda has sparked admiration on social media after posting a heartfelt tribute to some of the women who paved the way for female musicians in Zambia.
In a reflective Facebook post, Angela Nyirenda revealed that when she first entered the music industry, the number of active female recording artists was extremely small.
“When I came on the music scene, the female artists where few. The number of recording female artists couldn’t reach 20, if am not mistaken,” she wrote.

Angela Nyirenda highlighted several iconic female musicians who played a major role in shaping Zambia’s music landscape and influencing upcoming artists like herself.
She acknowledged that she learnt valuable lessons from the female musicians she mentioned, as well as others she could not list.
Jane Osborne: “Mesmerizing and a Perfectionist Performer”
Among the first names Angela Nyirenda praised was Jane Osborne, describing her as a talented and captivating performer.
“Jane Osbone….such a mesmerizing and perfectionist performer…” she wrote.
Alice Chali: Evergreen Queen of Vocals and Dance
Angela also saluted the late Alice Chali, a name widely respected in Zambia’s music history.
“ALICE CHALI…a vocalist/ swift dancer..Evergreen queen,” she posted.
Shartel: Duo Known for Catchy Tunes
She also mentioned Shartel, a duo remembered for producing melodious and catchy music that captured audiences.
“SHARTEL… a duo who came with catchy and melodious tunes…” she said.
Sista D: Energy and Powerful Messages
Angela Nyirenda also recognized Sista D, praising her for her stage energy and lyrical content aimed at educating and sensitizing society.

Nalu: Sweet Melodies and Inspiring Messages
Another artist Angela Nyirenda credited was Nalu, whom she described as consistent and inspiring.

Angela Nyirenda further praised Maureen Lupo, calling her a soulful singer whose music connects deeply with listeners.

Angela Nyirenda concluded by expressing deep respect for these female artists, describing them as fearless pioneers who made it possible for women in Zambia’s music industry to rise and thrive.
“These are fearless women i found in the music industry. Some are still very active. Others are doing different things,” she wrote.
“I respect them for paving a way for me and other female artists who came after me. My inspirations,” she added.
Angela ended her tribute with gratitude, thanking the women who inspired her journey.
