Opposition Citizens First (CF) Nkundalila Constituency aspiring parliamentary candidate Bangwe Naviley Chisenga has noted labour injustices affecting workers around Serenje’s Nakasala area, particularly those employed in manganese processing plants at Pensulo.

During his campaign trail in Nakasala, Bangwe expressed awareness of disturbing reports of workers sustaining injuries without compensation, with most being dismissed once injured — a practice he described as unlawful.

He observed that many workers operate without protective clothing as required by law, only being issued personal protective equipment (PPE) when senior government officials are scheduled to inspect.

Bangwe revealed that the practice of paying “bus boys” for one to secure employment slashing power lines will be thoroughly investigated and reported to relevant authorities such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

He explained that some councillors perpetuated injustice in such schemes, with those lacking cash being forced to make charcoal as inducement to be considered for employment.

He further highlighted other labour abuses, including workers being employed without written contracts, some earning below the minimum wage, and the absence of union representation to protect their rights.

Bangwe stressed that while CF supports investments in Zambia to grow the economy, it will not tolerate labour abuses carried out with impunity.

“This conduct is not in line with government policy, and the CF leadership under President Harry Kalaba will root out such challenges come August 2026,” Bangwe declared.

He emphasised that some labour issues persist because certain leaders are either beneficiaries or blind to realities on the ground.

He encouraged the people of Nakasala to turn out in large numbers and vote for him as Nkundalila Member of Parliament, Brighton Yamba as Serenje Council Chairperson, Harry Kalaba as President, and Joshua Mvula as Kabamba Ward Councillor — all under CF’s tree symbol.

Bangwe also reminded the community of his personal contributions over the past ten years, financing from his own pocket a 1×3 classroom block at Kalela, a 1×2 classroom block at Moyenda, one classroom at Chisomo, a borehole at Chibale School, a clinic staff house at Serenje Chiefdom, a staff house at Nakalengule, and an examination Strong Room at Kabansa, among other community projects.
