Police said the two have since been returned to Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility, where they are being held pending further police procedures and their appearance before court.
The latest development follows their arrest and detention as investigations into the matter continue. However, the formal charge represents an allegation, and the two remain entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.
The Zambia Police Service said it remains committed to maintaining law and order, upholding the rule of law and ensuring that matters are handled fairly, professionally and in accordance with the laws of Zambia.
The statement was issued by Timothy Malumo, Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Zambia Police Service.
