Choma Heroin Trafficker Nabbed, Over 500 Kilograms of Fresh Cannabis Seized in Northern Province

Lusaka, Monday 11th February, 2024.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Southern Province has apprehended four (4) individuals believed to be behind a spate of illicit drug trade in Choma town for trafficking in 68 sachets of heroin and other psychotropic substances.

The suspects have been identified as Lushomo Banda, male aged 21, of Choma town, who was found with 68 sachets of heroin weighing over 4 grams. Others found with loose cannabis include Gift Mudenda, male, aged 20, Luckson Mulunda, male, aged 23, and Simon Mashikini, male, aged 27, all of the Choma town area.

Meanwhile, in Northern Province, the Commission executed two (2) separate but well-coordinated operations leading to the apprehension of Two (2) suspects and the seizure of fresh Cannabis plants weighing a staggering amount of 527.3 Kilograms.

The suspects have been identified as Febian Chipasha, male, aged 67, from Chitoshi Village of Lunte District, arrested for the offence of unlawful cultivation of 482kgs of fresh Cannabis plants, and Gabriel Chama, male, aged 35, of Kabuta Village of Luwingu District, arrested for the offence of unlawful cultivation of 45.3kgs of fresh Cannabis plants.

All the suspects have been charged with offences contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act no. 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia. They are in lawful Police custody and shall appear in court soon.

The Commission continues to advance swift actions to deter illegal drug trade, protecting communities from violence and crime associated with drug trafficking.
