The Lusaka Boma Local Court has condemned castigated a 28 year old man who beat his mother, ordering him to pay her K200 for the abomination.

The judgement by the was delivered by Senior Local Court Magistrate Mpundu Mwape Fwambo.

In a matter which has shocked not only people but also chickens and homeless dogs of George Compound at how bad some humans can behave; James Mulavi is said to have whipped his mother’s head with a pot.

The source of the anger was that, earlier in the morning when he was reporting for his wheelbarrow transportation business, he gave his mother a K20 to buying relish so that the whole family could at least have their one-meal-a-day in the evening when he would return from work.
However, instead of being the brain of the starving household, mum turned herself into a junkie as she drank off some chibuku from the whole amount.

And so it was that when James returned, tired and drenched in sweat from pushing wheelbarrows, he found no family nshima but only empty pots and a drank mother.

The prospect that the whole family would sleep hungry hurt James so much that he lost his temper and opted to discipline his mother using the pot she should have cooked in.

However, next day; sober and realizing her rights, the 52 year old mother, Esther Zimba, sued the 28-year old son seeking to be paid damages for the beating and embarrassment by her son.

In it’s judgement the court rebuked James saying, “Your mother could be wrong for failing to cook on time, but you were also not right to hit her with a pot and insulting her in public, she is not your wife and mother, therefore, you must respect her. Even you, support your sons efforts and not using money meant for food on beer, that is wrong of a mother,” said senior local court Magistrate Fwambo as he condemned James to his mother a K200 as compensation.

It is yet to be seen whether she will use the money for beer or for family food.
