Court orders Kasanda to pay US$15,132 debt to fabricating company

LOCKED up Lusaka businessman Shadreck Kasanda has been ordered to pay Alumen Fabricators Limited US$15,132 for the aluminum windows, doors and glasses installed at his Ibex Hill mansion.

For his failure to give his side of the story regarding the debt within the stipulated 14 days after being sued, High Court judge Elita Mwikisa entered judgement in default of appearance against Kasanda compelling him to clear the debt.

The fabricating company was demanding payment of US$15,132 from Kasanda, which is the outstanding balance for the services that were rendered to him following a verbal agreement that was entered into on January 18, 2021 for the installation of aluminum windows, doors and glass at his residence, at an agreed sum of US$60,000.

Alumen Fabricators said efforts to have Kasanda clear the balance proved futile as he was elusive.

It asked the court to compel Kasanda to immediately pay it US$15,132 owed to it for the services rendered and interest on the amount due at the current bank lending rate from the date of filing the Court case until the date of payment.

Judge Mwikisa granted the prayer by the company ordered Kasanda to pay the money with interest.
