While her father was battling against COVID-19 in hospital, a lawyer-cum-security officer in the Ministry of Health went into his ward, took a photograph of him before posting a Facebook message describing him as an “enemy”.
A magistrate heard that part of the message, authored by Patricia Chanda, who has sued her father, read: “When the enemy is sick…”

In another 2021 Facebook story post, the court was shown a picture Ms Chanda, 33, who captured her bed-ridden 60-year-old father, Samuel Chanda, lying in hospital with a nasal cannula.

The picture also had an accompanying caption, with a laughing emoji, which partly read: “U need to get well, your hate for me has blessed my life so much, I need more blessings.”

The non-practising lawyer has vehemently refused to reconcile with Mr Chanda, whom she never met since 2018, until he was hospitalised in 2021.

Ms Chanda, of Chilenje Township, has sued Mr Chanda, alongside her 26-year-old stepsister, Bwalya Chanda, of Woodlands-Chalala, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She accuses them of having assaulted her on October 31, 2023.
