Former Minister and UPND National Management Committee Member, Ms Doreen Mwamba, has described the reported capture of former Petauke Member of Parliament, Mr Jay Jay Banda, as a lesson to those who allegedly insult and threaten others under the guise of freedom of speech.
Ms Mwamba said it was unfortunate for any society to tolerate or encourage insults against leaders, particularly the Republican President.
She has also warned individuals living in the diaspora who allegedly engage in insulting leaders that they are not beyond the reach of the law.
Ms Mwamba expressed concern over what she described as declining moral standards, particularly the tendency by some individuals to go beyond political criticism and allegedly wish death upon the Head of State.

“Political differences are inevitable, but reaching the extent of wishing a sitting President dead is appalling and a taboo,” Ms Mwamba observed.
She said the reported capture of Mr Banda should serve as a reminder to those who use social media and other digital platforms to insult leaders that freedom of expression should be exercised responsibly and with due regard for the law.
Ms Mwamba urged members of the public to uphold decorum in political discourse and exercise their freedom of expression in ways that promote respect and responsible engagement.
