Police has formally arrested and charged Lima Constituency Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH).
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha confirmed that Kaunda, aged 44,has been charged contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Brief facts are that on August 7, 2026, at around 21:30 hours, Anthony Mwamba, aged 26, of Soweto Compound, Lusaka, reported that he was allegedly assaulted by the lawmaker earlier that day at around 19:30 hours along Zingalume Road in Lusaka during campaign roadshows.
According to the police, the complainant sustained a deep cut to the forehead and a swollen upper lip. It is alleged that stones and fists were used during the incident.
By press time, Kaunda was in police custody awaiting court proceedings.
