PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says farming is a profitable venture and should be made attractive to many young people who normally opt for white-collar jobs.

Officially launching the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Southern Africa Research and Administrative Hub (SARAH) and food system research and delivery facilities in the country yesterday, President Hichilema said there is need to fundamentally change how “we” do things because there is something wrong with “us”.

The President said the issue of failing to convert potential into reality should become a thing of the past.

“[For instance] our overdependence on Ukraine for grains is fundamentally wrong because God gave us so many water bodies and arable soils, but what do we do with such resources? And we are also underutilising the facilities at IITA to increase agriculture productivity,” he said.
