Former Kapiri SDA president cheats death

ORMER Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) Kapiri Mposhi District president, Ernest Chiwele has survived a horrific road accident that claimed the lives of three other church members yesterday.

The accident occurred yesterday around 20:00 hours along Great North road at Temwa lay-by area in Kapiri Mposhi district.

This fatal incident was caused after Chiwele, aged 30 of KGP township in Kapiri was heading to the west direction from the East while driving an Audi, registration number BCD 6109 and ferrying four passengers onboard.

Central Province police commanding officer, Charity Munganga who confirmed the incident to Kalemba said that Chiwele attempted to improperly overtake a Sino tipper with registration number AIC 1223 from east to west direction.

While in the process of overtaking the driver hit on the rear right tyre of the truck causing him to loose control.

Munganga said this led Chiwele to hit a Toyota Allion which was coming from the opposite direction leading to the death of his passengers.

“The first motor vehicle had its rear right tyres deflated, the second motor vehicle had its left part extensively damaged while the third motor vehicle had its front part extensively damaged,” said Manganga.

The passengers have been identified as Sakala Musonda, 33, the SDA district vice president, Killien Chisenga, of, who served the church in the public relations department. Both were hailing from Kapiri Turn off.

Another casualty was Mercy Ngalande also a member of the church who died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Chiwele survived with 20-year-old Vanessa Kapulila of Tazara compound in Kapiri who sustained a cut on the chin.

Munganga added that the driver of the Toyota Allion sustained a cut on the right leg Chiwele himself complained of chest pains and that both drivers are currently admitted to Kapiri District Hospital while the deceased bodies have been deposited in the mortuary.
