HH MUST PAY FARMERS — NJOBVU, AS HE QUESTIONS PRIORITIES

Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to immediately pay farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

Njobvu said it was worrying that Government always seems to find money for allowances — “imigalato” — yet farmers who feed the nation are told to wait for a supplementary budget.

“Mr. President Hakainde Hichilema kindly pay our farmers. Money for imigalato is always there, but farmers have to always wait for supplementary budget,” Njobvu said.

The opposition leader said delayed payments have become a pattern that undermines agriculture and demoralises smallholder farmers, especially as they prepare for the 2026/2027 farming season.

He said farmers need their money now to buy inputs and prepare their fields, and not promises.

Njobvu urged Government to prioritise agriculture payments the same way it prioritises allowances and foreign travel, stating that food security should not be sacrificed for bureaucracy.
