Former Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo’s wife, Wanziya Chirwa, has denied having houses suspected of being proceeds of crime because the properties were graduation gifts from her mother.

The properties in question are valued at over K1 million. During her defence, Chirwa’s lawyer asked her to comment over allegations that she was in possession of properties suspected of being proceeds of crime.

“The properties that were being mentioned were for my mother and when I graduated in 2005, I was given as graduation present from my mother,” the chief planner in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts said.

This in a case Mr and Mrs Kampyongo are facing 11 counts of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime involving about K30 million.
