LUSAKA, Zambia — The Zambia Police Service has apprehended a 41-year-old accountant in Lusaka in connection with the alleged theft of K5 million from a company bank account belonging to Coretech Supplies Limited in Kitwe.

According to a police press statement issued on October 17, 2026, the suspect, identified as Johnson Malupande, an accountant at Nexxus Manufacturing Limited, was apprehended after allegedly receiving K2 million into his bank account.

Police said the matter was reported to Kitwe Central Police Station by Similawo Simbuliani, 47, a director at Coretech Supplies Limited, who reported the alleged theft on behalf of the company.

The alleged theft occurred on October 13, 2026, when the company’s bank account was reportedly debited with K5 million through unauthorised electronic transfers to different bank accounts.

The transactions allegedly took place shortly after Coretech Supplies Limited received K5 million as payment for services rendered under a contract with an institution whose name was not disclosed in the police statement.

Police explained that the company’s representative received a notification indicating that K2 million had been transferred to a bank account without authorisation. While he was at the bank seeking clarification over the transaction, a further K2,990,000 was allegedly transferred to another bank account, while K10,000 was sent to a mobile money number.

The transactions amounted to K5 million, prompting security measures that led to the apprehension of the suspect in Lusaka.

Further investigations reportedly established that Malupande had allegedly withdrawn K48,000 from the account into which the K2 million was transferred. Police said K41,168 was recovered from him when he was apprehended.

On October 16, 2026, officers from Kitwe Central Police Station travelled to Lusaka and took custody of the suspect for continued investigations.

Malupande remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft, trace the remaining funds and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.

The Zambia Police Service, through Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga of the Copperbelt Division Command, said investigations into the matter were ongoing.

Police have also urged members of the public and business entities to remain vigilant when handling financial transactions and to promptly report suspicious or unauthorised activity to the relevant authorities.

The case highlights the risks businesses face from unauthorised electronic transactions and the importance of promptly responding to unexpected bank alerts. However, the full circumstances surrounding the reported transfers remain under investigation.

The suspect has not been convicted, and the allegations remain subject to the ongoing police investigation and due legal process.
