Residents of Lusaka’s New Kanyama area are concerned with the illegal brewing of illicit beer popularly known as Kachasu.

Joshua Mwiinga has told Byta FM Zambia News that individuals who brew Kachasu pollute the air in communities while those who consume the illicit beer lose their lives.

Mwiinga says he is worried that there is an increase in the majority of youths consuming Kachasu.

He has further called on the government to take action in stopping the brewing of the illicit beer in communities and find ways of supporting the brewers with some appropriate businesses.

Another New Kanyama resident Prisca Mwale says Kachasu brewing is posing a healthy risk to the public.

Mwale says she is afraid of reporting the matter to authorities because Kachasu brewers may condemn her actions.

And Lusaka City Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Bulumba Nyambila has warned brewers of Kachasu of arrest if found.

Nyambila says the council is working with line Ministries to sensitize the public on the dangers of consuming and brewing Kachasu.
