A 31 year old woman of Manyonyo Area in Chikankata District of Southern Province has allegedly been denied to renewing her National Registration Card –NRC- for failure to remember the NRC number.

Ritah Cheelo has charged that she was sent away by the National Registration Office in Mazabuka when she attempted to replace her NRC which was lost in February.

Cheelo has told Byta FM Zambia News that one of the officers at the National Registration Office in Mazabuka told her that she will only replace her NRC after 15 years because of failure to remember her NRC number.

She has complained of having spent a lot of money going to and from the office with her parents but kept receiving unsatisfactory responses until the named officer finally informed her to replace her card after 15 years.

Cheelo has since called on relevant authorities to intervene in the matter because she needs her NRC as it is an important national document.

And her Father, Douglas Cheelo says the matter was reported to the District Commissioner’s office where they were assured of government’s intervention, but to date nothing has happened.

He claims that they recently visited DC’s office where they were informed that the matter was resolved contrary to what happened when they reached the NRC’s office.

But when contacted, Oliver Mulomba, expressed displeasure over the conduct of the officer from the Department of District National Registration office.

Mulomba said the District NRC office supervisor should explain to his office why the known officer spoke in that manner to the client and sent her away.
