Kasama Mayor PETER CHIKWETI-YUDA has been detained by police after being charged with criminal trespass.
This is over an alleged unauthorised entry into the residence of Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary BEAUTY UNDI-PHIRI.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer GODFREY CHILABI says Mr. CHIKWETI was formally charged and arrested on Friday, September 25, 2026, for criminal trespass.

This is contrary to Section 306 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. CHILABI says the arrest followed a complaint lodged with police in Kasama by Ms. PHIRI concerning an incident that allegedly occurred at her residence in Kasama District on August 14, 2026, at about 09:00 hours.
Police allege that Mr. CHIKWETI, acting together with other people whose identities have not yet been established, entered Ms. PHIRI’s residence without lawful authority.
He said in a statement to ZNBC news that the group entered the premises with the intention of intimidating Ms. PHIRI and members of her family.
Mr. CHILABI said Mr. CHIKWETI remains in police custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the other people allegedly involved in the incident.
