A NDOLA woman has dragged her Congolese fiancé to court over breach of marriage contract.
Kapitolo, a resident of Kabushi Extension Township, said her fiancé, Baita, took dowry to her family with the promise of marrying her without disclosing that he was already a married man.
“He told me that he was from Congo and was not married. He also told me that he was looking for a woman to marry. I asked him several times if he was married but he always responded that he was single, so I accepted his proposal,” Kapitolo said.

She said Baita took dowry to her older brother.
“I later discovered that he was married and that is the reason
I have sued him for breach of marriage agreement because he has wasted my time,” she said.
But in defence, Baita told the court that when he met Kapitolo last year, he informed her that he was having problems with his wife.
“She again asked me if we could go and visit her spiritual father (pastor) who asked me if I was married and I accepted. I later went to visit the same pastor of hers with my real wife and we were both counselled,” he said.
He said he went there again to see the spiritual father, who told him that his wife had a lot of pride and advised him to marry Kapitolo promising that he would help him with the money for dowry.
Baita said Kapitolo even suggested that since he was not working, she was going to give him some money to pay for her bride price and organise someone to go with him.
“After taking the dowry, the spiritual father [pastor] called me again to pray and counsel me and my wife. I decided to change my mind and work things out with my wife because I felt it was the right thing to do. There is peace in my marriage now and that is the reason I terminated the marriage agreement with Kapitolo,” he said.
He said after telling her that their relationship was over, she decided to come up with a story that she was pregnant for him, which he denied.
“So she decided to bring me to court because she is upset,” he said.
