Patriotic Front (PF) President Miles Sampa has announced that the opposition party has formally withdrawn its participation from the upcoming parliamentary elections ahead of Zambia’s August 2026 General Elections.

In a statement issued on May 29, 2026, Sampa revealed that the decision was reached after what he described as “wider consultations with key stakeholders” within the party and other interested groups.

PF Withdraws After High Court Decision

According to Sampa, the PF’s withdrawal follows a recent High Court ruling delivered by Judge C.C. Zulu and Judge Mwila Kombe, which he says effectively prevented the party from fielding candidates for presidential, parliamentary, and council elections.

The PF leader explained that the ruling came just hours before the closure of nominations, making it difficult for the former ruling party to proceed with its planned participation in the elections.

“Given the High Court ruling delivered three hours before the closure of nominations, we will now collectively channel our energy to have a say and influence who wins the republican presidential ticket, for the good of Zambia,” Sampa stated.

Focus Shifts to Presidential Influence

Although PF will no longer participate in the parliamentary race, Sampa indicated that the party intends to remain politically active by influencing the presidential election outcome.

The former Matero Member of Parliament suggested that the PF will focus on strategic political engagement ahead of the August polls as the party evaluates its next steps.

He further disclosed that the PF Central Committee is expected to hold a meeting over the weekend to determine the party’s official direction regarding campaigns and political alliances.

Miles Sampa Speaks on Community Projects

Despite the withdrawal from parliamentary participation, Sampa reassured residents of Lima and Matero that he remains committed to supporting local community initiatives.

He referenced ongoing projects such as Ubuntu and Kakudya Sikachepa, saying his involvement in the communities was never solely about politics or elections.

“It was never about votes, but about the everlasting love for all the people in my birthplace area,” he stated.

Political Reactions Expected

The announcement is expected to trigger fresh political debate ahead of Zambia’s highly anticipated 2026 elections, with many observers now watching closely to see which presidential candidate or alliance the PF may eventually support.

Political analysts believe the PF’s next moves could significantly influence opposition dynamics and voter alignment during the campaign season.
