Government has intensified preparations for the National Heroes Stadium renovation and rehabilitation works, with Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Administration Dr. Oliver Kalabo leading a high-level inspection of the facility in Lusaka.
Dr. Kalabo led a delegation of Permanent Secretaries and other senior Government officials during the inspection on Monday, August 24, 2026, to assess progress on the ongoing works and review preparations ahead of the planned inauguration ceremony.
The delegation toured several sections of the National Heroes Stadium to assess the rehabilitation works being undertaken across the facility.
Among the areas inspected were the VIP facilities, washrooms, the area designated for the main stage and other critical sections currently undergoing improvements.
The inspection was aimed at giving Government officials an opportunity to assess the progress of the works on the ground and ensure that preparations remain on schedule and that the stadium meets the required standards ahead of the inauguration.
The rehabilitation of National Heroes Stadium is being implemented through a multi-sectoral Government approach involving the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Zambia National Service and Zambia Air Force.
The ongoing works include improvements to VIP facilities, carpeting, tiling, plumbing and the rehabilitation of ablution facilities, alongside other critical infrastructure improvements at the stadium.
The Government’s latest inspection highlights the importance being placed on completing the rehabilitation works and ensuring that National Heroes Stadium is ready to host major national events.
The facility remains one of Zambia’s key sporting and public-event venues, making the ongoing rehabilitation significant for both sports and other national activities.
The Government is expected to continue monitoring the works as preparations for the inauguration progress.
